Ligament Repair

Ligaments support joint movement and function. When these bands of tough, flexible connective tissue are damaged, the joint can become unstable. Tearing a ligament severely limits joint pivoting, turning, twisting, and general movement. If the damage affects your normal activities, your doctor may recommend surgery that uses a biologic implant.

Biologic implants are a natural alternative to synthetic and metal implants, and unlike synthetic and metal implants, biologic implants incorporate into the patient’s body.

Another choice surgeons have is an autograft, which takes tissue from one part of the body for transplantation to another part. Using a biologic implant eliminates the need for a second surgery site—avoiding additional pain, risk, and possible longer hospital stay.
