Cartilage Restoration

Cartilage is found on joint surfaces where bones come in contact with each other. Cartilage damage can be caused by a traumatic injury or overuse, and can lead to pain and negative changes in the joint function. Your doctor may elect cartilage restoration by using a biologic implant to treat damaged cartilage.

Biologic implants are a natural alternative to synthetic and metal implants, and unlike synthetic and metal implants, biologic implants incorporate into the patient’s body.

Another choice surgeons have is an autograft, which takes tissue from one part of the body for transplantation to another part. Using a biologic implant eliminates the need for a second surgery site—avoiding additional pain, risk, and possible longer hospital stay.

It is important to discuss questions or concerns with your physician before your surgery.
